Dr Lukas Van Oudenhove - in non-academic mode

“Gut instinct”, “Couldn’t stomach that” and “Belly up” are just some of the many metaphors linking our feelings and our intestines. Dr Lukas Van Oudenhove’s work on the mood altering effects of fat in the stomach introduced us to his work. But this Belgian psychiatrist’s investigations of our guts, feelings and thoughts go far deeper than that. His work on the nervous system in our belly, the enteric system or little brain, show that the connection between brain and belly can be good for us, or bad.

Bob Hughes spoke to Dr Van Oudenhove on the phone, and here is their conversation.
